What is the Most Common Carry-On Luggage Size Limit?

CarryOn Pic

It would be great if there was one size that all Airline Companies could agree on as the accepted carry-on luggage size limit – There Isn’t.

But there is a size which a large number of airlines use. Remember these numbers:

45 linear inches

Or

22″ x 14″ x 9″

(In centimetres it is about 114 linear cm or 56cm x 35.5cm x 23cm)

Most airlines will go with the linear inches concept (the sum total of the length + width + height of your luggage). Other airlines will break this down into specific lengths for each dimension (hence the 22″ x 14″ x 9″).

You should also be allowed one personal item (such as a handbag, briefcase, laptop case or small backpack).

Not all airlines adhere to these measurements, some allow more space – others less. For a more detailed list of limits across 68 airlines check out this website.

You also have to take into account the weight of your luggage – for carry on this is normally about 10kg.

Now go forth and conquer with your new found knowledge.
